HIGH POLISH PLASTER AND FLUTED PLASTER WALLS SPANNING A SEVEN STORY STAIRWELL

This circa 1901 townhouse in New York's Upper East Side features spectacular design elements, including a marble staircase that spans seven stories. For this large-scale installation, we navigated the technical challenges that came with such a unique space which required thoughtful execution, specialty equipment, and a team of 18 people to create the finishes. Helmed by our artisan partner Patrick Shoemaker, they applied a high polish Venetian plaster finish to the entire length of the stairwell wall—which took a continuous 10 hours—as well as a limewash finish on the underside of the stairs and over the fluted plaster panels that were installed by SuperStrata to cover the elevator shaft. A polished plaster finish adds shine to a few rooms throughout the seven floors and brings light into the home’s entryway.
